Clean & Sober
Liz and Austin both got sober the same year. Liz was in January and Austin was in September.
2014
The year they met
They met through mutual friends in recovery together. They took the same bus and one day on a hike Liz asked Austin out!
2018
They got engaged
On a weekend trip back to Liz’s hometown in Walton, NY, Austin popped the question.
2020
Married & Moved to Reading
They got married at the height of the Pandemic, despite a lot of trouble! Later that year they moved into Reading, PA.
2021
Vivian came along
On Memorial Day they took a trip to La Mancha Ranch, where they met the dog that would change their lives forever, Farty Vivian.
2025
Today
They practice living sober, live their best lives and try to have a blast doing it. They enjoy helping others and have a lot of gratitude for their journey!
2013 – Clean & Sober
Lizabeth and Austin Keenan both decided to clean up before they met each other. After treatment, they both found themselves living in halfway houses within the same treatment network. They had seen each other at AA meetings but were not supposed to date for the first year of recovery.
2014 – The year they met
Through a few mutual friends and a fortunate coincidence, Lizabeth and Austin came to know each other personally. They both rode the same NJ Transit bus to work and were on a hike with their respective friend groups when Liz got the idea to ask Austin to hang out. The rest is history!
2018 – They got engaged
The couple moved in and lived together in Hackensack, NJ for a few years and moved up from a 1-room studio to a 1-bedroom apartment in the same building. Austin went back to college and graduated, and Liz went to work at the Post Office. They had many weekend adventures, but on one particular trip to Walton, NY, Austin got the bright idea to propose (it was close to their ‘anniversary’, after all). Guess what Liz’s answer was!
2020 – Married & Moved to Reading
After graduating from Saint Peter’s University, Austin grabbed a job at Customers Bank in Collegeville, PA. This led to the couple moving to their own apartment in Gilbertsville, PA. During their move, the Pandemic struck and everything went crazy. For some reason, Liz felt this was the time to go looking for a house, and Austin felt strongly they should keep their promise to each other to get married that year. Both ended up working out for the best.
2021 – Vivian came along
The next year, Lizabeth expressed her desire to get a furry companion for them to share the time with. Austin wanted to have his say, since he was working from home at the time, and so the two set out for La Mancha Ranch to find a dog to adopt. They found Vivian, who was named by Austin on the way home, after the character “Vivi” from Final Fantasy IX. He also started calling her “Farty”, for obvious reasons.
2025 – Today
Today Austin and Liz are a happily married couple living good, clean lives in Reading, PA. They both have a network of friends both old and new, they love to spend time watching TV together, and travel as much as their jobs will allow. It’s by the grace of God they get to enjoy such a great life, and it is with deep gratitude they both agree that they wouldn’t have it any other way.
